Fundamentals of Dental Insurance Plans
Full Coverage Dental Plan: This plan offers coverage of all normal dental procedures carried out. If an individual or his family enters into an agreement with the insurance company under this plan, depending on the insurance company you choose will list out the benefits you are entitled to enjoy. Many people misunderstand the term “full coverage” by taking the literal meaning of it, actually speaking a portion of the claim has to be paid by the policy holder as a deductible or as a co-pay, even when the claims are sent to the insurer. The policyholder needs to pay the premium depending on the policy chosen by them in order to keep the policy alive. A full coverage dental plan is very different from that of the discount rental plan as the policyholder needs to purchase a membership plan thereby getting a discount in prices from the member dentists. This plan might have limitations in the number of cleanings made, it is said to limit up to two cleanings per year, all the other dental services and procedures are however covered under the policy. The cleaning procedure is said to prevent from serious problems like filling, root canal treatments and even tooth extractions. Common Coverage: Many full coverage plans cover basic and minor dental care procedures, while cheap dental plans might not cover the basic dental care, but might assure to cover bigger procedures or the vice versa. Affordable plans might cover only basic procedures of dental care. In order to strike a deal one needs to carefully go through the available plans and then choose the one which suits the individual. Understanding Basic Dental Care Needs: Basic dental care needs are the term used for cleaning procedures and annual x-rays. Many policies cover for the cleanings and checkups, as these above dental care procedures avoids any expensive procedure needs in the future. Extensiveness of Dental Insurance coverage: As said earlier basic dental care procedures are covered under most of the dental insurance plans. While choosing a full coverage dental plan one needs to check other levels of dental insurance coverage such as minor dental care, major dental care and cosmetic dental procedures. Minor dental care procedures include filling the tooth, caps for tooth, root canal procedures and other minor procedures, which do not cost more. The above procedures are not mandatory for everyone, but covered for normally with any full coverage plan. But then the policy holder will pay along with the insurer or pay as a deductible amount. Major dental care procedures are those, which comprise of orthodontics, dental surgery, dental implants or any other dentures. People are more interested in this type of coverage as it involves lot of money. Even though it is not done regularly, but when need arises the policy should be in place to cover the costs. Hence while choosing a dental plan see to that it is covered for major dental care procedures. Cosmetic dental procedures like orthodontics, tooth whitening are not normally included in the dental care plans. Dental policies cover basic and minor dental care procedures and to some extent major procedures, one may not find any coverage to cosmetic procedures or could be found in very little amounts. Hence, before selecting an insurance policy for dental care, you should see as to what the policy covers and does not cover. |
