Managed care Dental Insurance Plan and Dental Indemnity Insurance Plan

Advantages of Managed Care Dental Insurance Plan:

The main advantage of managed care dental insurance plan is that, it is considered to be the lowest amount of money spent for dental care treatments.  As managed care insurance plan does not depend on the deductibles or on the up-front payment, which is normal in many other cases.  The dentist’s network offer wide variety of immediate discounts to the insurance policy holder, making the policy holder to take advantage of it and pay only very less up-front fees to the dentist or dental hygienist.  The overall dental care costs are made very small.

The next most important advantage being, less paper work involved in dental insurance claims under the managed care dental insurance.  The hassle to fill forms and attach necessary documents in order to claim the money spent on check-up are avoided under this plan.  The dentist sends the bill and the paper pertaining to it to the insurance company directly, and the insurance company in return settles the bill of the dentist without demur.  Ultimately the insurance policy holder just needs to show the insurance card number in order to avail such facility.

Disadvantages of Managed Care Dental Insurance Plan:

The main disadvantage being, the policyholder is forced to select the dentist from the list provided by the insurance company.  The policyholder might or might not find it very hard to select from the list provided to them, which in turn depends on the extensiveness of the list of the network of dentists.  Another disadvantage being, while you have traveled to some other place other than your place of residence due to some reasons, will have to bear all the cost towards dental care, if the policyholder is not able to locate the dentist from the network in the place of travel.

Advantages of Dental Indemnity Plan:

In this type of dental insurance there are no prescribed network of dentists, the policyholder can select his dentist from the best of best or the dentist the required qualification and expertise in the field.  Even during travel, the insurance plan takes care of the cost, whether or not the dentist is part of the network.

Disadvantages of Dental Indemnity Plan:

The main disadvantage being, the policyholder is expected to pay the up-front costs or deductibles and then get the claim reimbursed from the insurer.  The main hassle involved in claiming the cost is that, if the insurer doesn’t agree with the coverage of the procedure in the plan, the insurance policy holder needs to fight for his right by showing enough proof and supporting documents.  The payment also might get delayed in such cases. There is no surety that the policyholder might get full reimbursement.

The next greatest disadvantage being, some of the dentists don’t have good relationships with the insurance providers as they feel the insurer underpays them.  Due to this reason some dentists don’t even provide proper care or feel like attending the patient by not giving appointments in the first place.

Almost all the insurance policies have their own advantages and disadvantages; it is up to the consumer to select the policies according to their requirements and budget.  By going through many dental policies, the consumer can surely select the policy of his need.
